From February 6 to 8, 2020, the Mission of the US
Embassy in Vietnam led by Mr. Thomas Stevenson, Defense Attaché, had a working
visit in Cao Bang province.
Director of Cao Bang Department of Foreign Affairs Huynh Van Nam welcomed the delegation to Cao Bang and, on behalf of the province leaders, extended best regards to the US Ambassadors in
Vietnam.
Mr. Thomas Stevenson highly appreciated the
reception of Cao Bang Department of Foreign Affairs and had a good impression
on the people and landscape of Cao Ban. At the same time, he hoped that during
the visit, the mission would be able to survey some locations for building schools
and health stations in areas frequently affected by natural disasters in the
province. After the trip, the mission would have a survey report and select two
appropriate places to develop the project to submit to Overseas Humanitarian,
Disaster, and Civic Aid Appropriation (OHDACA, USA) for approval. The US
Embassy in Vietnam would inform Cao Bang province through the Department of
Foreign Affairs if the project was approved. (estimated funding for each
construction is about USD 500.000)

The mission visited 6 locations in the districts of
Trung Khanh, Quang Uyen and Hoa An including Trung Phuc Commune Health Station,
Lang Hieu Primary School, Chi Thao Commune Health Station, Hong Dinh Nursery
School, Quang Trung Nursery School and Hong Nam Commune Health Station. The
delegation had talks with the leaders of the local authorities on a number of
issues like the situation of the Health Stations and schools, listened to the
desired needs of the communes and took measurements of the project construction
sites.

Through the mission of the survey team, the units
and districts contributed to introduce as well as promote the image of Cao
Bang province to the US Embassy in Vietnam. It was also a good opportunity to
promote the cooperation between Cao Bang and the US Embassy. The delegation was
impressed by an enthusiastic and dynamic Cao Bang who was willing to integrate
and exchange internationally in a flexible and diverse manner in order to best
serve the socio-economic development. In addition, Cao Bang Department of Foreign
Affairs which had been playing a good role as the focal point in the local foreign
affairs, would, in the coming time, continue connecting with the embassies in
Vietnam, thereby building an information exchange mechanism between agencies
and organizations with the province in a more convenient and sustainable way.
