Cao Bang to host the 8th Asia Pacific Geoparks Network Symposium in 2024

On September 10th, in the closing Ceremony of he 7th Asia Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN) in the theme of “Geoparks: Building sustainable communities” in Satun (Thailand), the APGN Symposium flag transfer from Satun province to Cao Bang province took place, Cao Bang officially became the host of the 8th APGN Symposium in 2024.

Attending the ceremony were representatives of geoparks around the world, experts, scientists, lecturers, managers, geopark potential members in Asea-Pacific region and throughout the world. Cao Bang’s delegation led by the Chairman of People’s Committee of Cao Bang province Hoang Xuan Anh attended the symposium.
The Organizing Committee highly appreciated the presentations by the national geopark delegates from different countries sharing experiences on good models in the construction and development of geoparks. The shared contents included the enhancement the efficiency of management, protection and promotion of the value of geological and indigenous cultural heritages of the geoparks; the development of geopark tourism to create livelihoods for indigenous people in association with the environmental protection in the direction of sustainable tourism development; the education of geopark heritage values in schools; effective and sustainable geopark tourism models.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Nickolas Zouros, Chairman of UNESCO global geopark network affirmed, thanks to presentations on initiatives and good practices in the construction and development of geoparks by experts, scholars and politicians, that the 7th symposium was held successfully. This enriches active activities to protect and promote the value of geopark heritage in many countries. The goal is to build and improve the operational efficiency of the geoparks.

Earlier, the delegation of Cao Bang province attended the APGN Advisory Committee meeting and presented Candidature dossiers for hosting the 8th APGN Symposium in Cao Bang in 2024. The dossiers were highly appreciated by the members of the APGN Advisory Committee for the dossier preparation and the potential of Cao Bang province. 100% of the APGN Advisory Committee members agreed to vote for Cao Bang as the host of 8th APGN Symposium 2024.
That the 8th APGN Symposium held in Cao Bang will be an opportunity for the province to affirm its ability to organize international events and opens up many new opportunities for Cao Bang tourism, making positive and important contributions to the province’s tourism.
