The village elder Tran Van Phong, a 65-year-old Nung man in Nhi Du village, Cai Vien commune, Ha Quang district, Cao Bang province still regularly participates with the officers and soldiers of Lung Nam border guard to patrol, protect the border and the landmarks, and preserve every inch of sacred land of the Fatherland.

The path to landmark 692 is still very difficult. It takes almost a day to go there and back. What village elder Tran Van Phong (called Gia Phong by the villagers) usually carries is simply a knife to clear bushes, a handful of rice for lunch and a bottle of water. He usually arrives at marker 692 around noon after a strenuous climb. He often cleans the four sides of the landmark to make sure that the words and numbers printed on the main face of the landmark are clearly visible. He also cleans up and clears the grass and trees growing around the landmark area. Those are the repetitive tasks that Elder Phong has done for nearly a century. He always reports in details to Lung Nam border guard if the landmark is intact or chipped.

The path from landmark 692 to landmark 695 has left his footprints on every rock and tree stump. In the rainy season, when trees grow quickly and grass grows densely, he mobilizes the people of Nhi Du village to work together to clear the borders and landmark areas. All Nhi Du villagers actively participate in protecting borders and landmarks, and maintaining the village security and order.

Growing up in the border area and experiencing many ups and downs, he clearly understands the value of peace and preserving every inch of the Fatherland's border land. " I am not afraid of difficulties or hardships going up the distant border landmarks because my feet are used to steep roads, my eyes are used to forest roads and my heart is always directed towards the border landmarks" said the village elder Tran Van Phong.

Gia Phong emphasized that while he is still healthy, he still looks after the landmark. When his legs can no longer walk, the younger generation will have to replace him and continue with the Border Guard to firmly protect the country's sovereignty to prevent anyone from violating the country's landmarks, borders, and territory.

Lieutenant Colonel Sai Van Hung, Political Commissar of Lung Nam Border Guard, said that Gia Phong is not afraid of difficulties and hardships and volunteers and accompanies Lung Nam border guards in managing and protecting borders and border landmarks. He plays a very important role in propagating and mobilizing people to strictly comply with the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's legal policies, mobilizing people to participate in managing and protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security, to change their way of thinking and working to eliminate hunger, reduce poverty and develop the economy to stabilize their lives.
